Pixie was no ordinary cat. While she had a loving home with her owner, Bex Hunt, the independent feline was also a familiar face at the local Applegreen petrol station, where she often lounged in her favorite spot—on top of a bag of coals.
When she passed away in January, many in the community felt the loss deeply. To honor her, one of Pixie’s devoted fans, Nicola Sammarone, initiated plans for a mural that would keep her memory alive.
“It’s the purrfect little tribute,” Hunt said. “I really love it—it’s a lovely reminder that she’s back at the garage. People are even sharing their pictures of the artwork on Facebook, so she’s immortalized there forever now.”
The Artwork and Its Meaning
The mural was created by local artist Jo Beck (known as ElaKriti), who had known Pixie since she was just a year old. With input from Pixie’s family, the design shows her exactly as she should be—curled up on the coals she loved.
“I wanted to depict her character,” Beck explained. “Her recognition and story as the cat who roamed the garage was inspirational to so many. When I heard of her passing, I knew I wanted to help celebrate her memory.”
The project was approved by Aylesbury Town Council, which provided the paints and supported the installation of the mural on a utility cabinet outside the petrol station.
