Cat Calorie Calculator: Daily Calories, Treats, Meals & BCS
Estimate your cat’s daily calories using a veterinary-style RER formula, then adjust for neuter status, activity, goal, treats, meals, and a BCS-based ideal weight estimate.
- Daily calories (kcal/day) with clear multiplier breakdown.
- Treat calories budget + per-meal calories and grams.
- BCS → ideal weight estimate to support weight-loss planning.
Neutered cats often need fewer calories.
For weight loss, many plans use an estimated ideal weight.
Treat calories are subtracted from meal calories.
Advanced: Custom caloric density (kcal/100g)

Multiplier breakdown (RER & factors)
Formula: MER = 70 × weight(kg)0.75 × multipliers

How this calculator works
We estimate a Resting Energy Requirement (RER) and then apply multipliers for life stage, neuter status, activity, and goal. Treat calories are budgeted and subtracted from meal calories.
- RER: 70 × weight(kg)0.75
- MER: RER × multipliers
- Mahlzeiten: (MER − treats) ÷ meals/day
Quick multiplier reference
| Faktor | Typical |
|---|---|
| Adult (neutered) | ~1.2 × RER |
| Adult (intact) | ~1.4 × RER |
| Kätzchen | ~2–3 × RER |
| Weight loss goal | ~0.8 × (often using ideal weight) |
Values vary by individual cat; vet guidance is best.
BCS → Ideal weight (simple estimate)
This v2 uses a simple rule-of-thumb: each BCS point away from 5 is ~10% weight difference. Ideal weight ≈ current ÷ (1 + %over/under).
| BCS | Approx. vs ideal |
|---|---|
| 4 | ~10% under ideal |
| 5 | ideal |
| 6 | ~10% over ideal |
| 7 | ~20% over ideal |
| 8 | ~30% over ideal |
| 9 | ~40% over ideal |
If your cat has a medical condition (kidney disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, etc.), do not rely on calculators alone.
